Denmark warns of Russian sabotage targeting defence sector amid Ukraine support tensions

Denmark’s domestic intelligence service has warned that Russian intelligence is actively preparing sabotage operations against the country’s defence sector, with companies linked to military support for Ukraine among the main targets.

v and their own military build-up. He said the threat was serious enough that authorities felt compelled to alert the public, and he pointed to arson as one possible tactic.

PET has urged defence firms to tighten security. Graesholm also said Russian services are trying to use ordinary Danes, often without their knowledge, to gather information that could later be used in sabotage planning. That can include photographing facilities or filming sites of interest. According to the agency’s warning, recruitment is taking place through online platforms including social media and gaming sites, with payment sometimes made in cryptocurrency.

The Danish warning comes amid a broader pattern of alleged Russian hybrid activity across Europe. In Germany, officials have accused Moscow of involvement in recent sabotage-related incidents and other destabilisation efforts, while Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said a fire at a drone plant in Skarżysko-Kamienna was an act of sabotage. French authorities have also said they are investigating a rise in sabotage and espionage cases they link to Russia’s wider campaign of disruption tied to the war in Ukraine.

Moscow has repeatedly denied involvement in such operations.
