fter extensive one-to-one conversations with supplier partners, rather than devised solely from the top down, reflecting what it described as direct feedback from companies that wanted closer engagement and a clearer route to growth.
The cooperative, founded in 1958, says it is the largest foodservice distribution group in the United States, linking more than 1,100 independent distributors with suppliers. Its supplier-facing proposition has long centred on giving vendors access to a broad network of distributor members, while helping independents compete with larger national rivals through purchasing strength, marketing support and logistics capabilities.
Against that backdrop, Partners Plus Solutions appears to be an attempt to move beyond access alone. UniPro said the new platform will bring together category management, member development, marketing, supplier leadership and field teams in a coordinated structure intended to turn planning into measurable commercial results. The company also said the initiative is designed to help suppliers identify opportunities earlier and act on them more quickly.
Brian Larsen, UniPro’s chief operating officer, said in the announcement that contracts open the door but do not define the relationship, adding that the company wants to work more actively with partners to remove barriers to growth and unlock value. Stephanie Ngo, vice-president of supplier and member engagement, said the move represents more than a minor extension of existing programmes and that early participants will have the chance to shape how the market develops.
The launch also reflects wider pressures in the foodservice sector, where consolidation has intensified competition and made it harder for suppliers to rely on traditional approaches alone. UniPro said the new platform is intended to answer that shift with a model built around discipline, alignment and execution, rather than simple relationship management.
For indirect spend and technology suppliers, the promise is access to a more integrated commercial framework and to UniPro’s extensive distributor base. UniPro says its supplier network already reaches decision-makers across more than 400 distributor members, and the company is betting that a more tailored programme will give participating partners a stronger platform from which to scale.
The cooperative has cast the initiative as part of a broader effort to evolve its partnership models as the industry changes. If it works as intended, Partners Plus Solutions could become a template for how UniPro wants to work with suppliers in the years ahead: less transactional, more coordinated and more explicitly focused on mutual growth.
