Jaguar Land Rover has deepened its relationship with Tata Communications in a move designed to give the carmaker a more resilient digital backbone as it pushes further into next-generation vehicle production and data-driven manufacturing.
According to the companies, the agreement will see Tata Communications roll out a cloud-first, software-defined wide area network across JLR’s 128 sites around the world, linking factories, warehouses, sales centres, data hubs and cloud serv...

ices. The aim is to create a more flexible infrastructure that can support faster manufacturing decisions, tighter supply-chain control and greater use of artificial intelligence and advanced analytics.
JLR said the work is intended to underpin the next stage of its digital transformation and help prepare its operations for technologies associated with Industry 4.0. The company is also looking to improve production-line performance and strengthen operational resilience as it develops vehicles for the next generation of its model line-up.
Tony Battle, JLR’s group chief digital and information officer, said the company was entering “an exciting phase” in its digital transformation and that moving to SD-WAN would allow the business to use AI-enabled automation to anticipate weaknesses, intervene sooner and operate more effectively across its global network. He added that the connectivity platform would help JLR build the environment needed to deliver “modern luxury vehicles and remarkable driving experiences”.
Tata Communications said the project was an extension of JLR’s broader Reimagine strategy, which is intended to reshape the business around higher standards of environmental, social and commercial performance. Computer Weekly noted that JLR has committed to reaching carbon net zero across its supply chain, products and operations by 2039, a target that adds further pressure to streamline production and logistics.
The two companies already have a long-standing commercial relationship. Computer Weekly reported that Tata Communications’ MOVE platform is used in connected-car services across more than 600,000 JLR vehicles in over 100 markets, handling infotainment and telematics connectivity. The new programme broadens that partnership from the car itself to the wider industrial network that supports design, production and distribution.
Tata Communications has already begun the implementation, and the companies expect the rollout to be completed by 2025. JLR said it anticipates meaningful cost savings as well as gains in scale and security, while the broader system is expected to shorten the time needed to update manufacturing processes and improve the carmaker’s ability to respond to production demands.
