American Express Global Business Travel has unveiled Hotel Lobby, an agentic artificial intelligence capability designed to speed up hotel sourcing and keep travel programmes under review throughout the year rather than only at renewal points.
The company says the new tool sits within its hotel sourcing consulting service and is intended to take over labour-heavy work such as cleansing data, calculating preferred rates and checking requests for proposal for errors. That would l...

eave consultants to concentrate on negotiation strategy, supplier discussions and exceptions that still require human judgement.
Amex GBT says the system is built around several specialised AI agents handling coverage, negotiation and sourcing tasks. It draws on rate benchmarks across thousands of hotels worldwide, supplier performance data derived from more than $5 billion in managed hotel spend and compliance patterns seen across its client base.
The launch comes against a backdrop of hotel pricing and demand changing more quickly than many corporate travel programmes are structured to handle. Amex GBT argues that a once-a-year sourcing cycle can leave companies exposed to compliance drift and missed savings between tender rounds. By automating the preparatory work, the company says Hotel Lobby should allow sourcing teams to begin with cleaner data and move more quickly through the process.
Sara Andell, director of consulting strategy at Amex GBT, said the platform is meant to combine the discipline of a full sourcing exercise with greater speed. She said the AI agents would handle the data work and allow consultants to spend more time on the conversations that shape savings outcomes.
The company says its established sourcing approach already delivers an average saving of 28.8% off the best available rate and a 96% property response rate across more than 80,000 hotels sourced each year. Hotel Lobby applies the same methodology, but with AI automation layered on top of consultant oversight.
According to Business Travel News and Hospitality Tech, the broader ambition is to move from episodic sourcing towards continuous rate monitoring and year-round optimisation. That would make the process less about a single annual event and more about ongoing management of hotel spend.
Amex GBT is also presenting Hotel Lobby as part of a wider agent-to-agent architecture that it says is already in use across its travel servicing and booking products. The company describes the launch as the first in a series of AI-related enhancements planned for its consulting arm, with further links to reporting and intelligence tools under consideration.
The move reflects a wider industry belief that travel management is becoming more automated. In research commissioned by Amex GBT and conducted by Forrester earlier this year, only 3% of organisations described travel as part of a fully orchestrated enterprise workflow, while 92% of IT decision makers said AI would transform travel into continuously optimised systems.
Hotel Lobby is available now to Amex GBT Consulting clients and enterprise programmes globally.
