SAP has completed its acquisition of Reltio, bringing the master data management specialist into the fold at a time when enterprise software vendors are racing to make corporate information usable for agentic AI. In a statement marking the close of the deal, Reltio said it is now “officially Reltio, an SAP company”, framing the transaction as both a milestone for the business and a response to growing demand for cleaner, better-governed data across complex systems.

isition, first announced by SAP in March 2026, was presented as a way to help customers make both SAP and non-SAP data AI-ready. SAP said at the time that Reltio would strengthen SAP Business Data Cloud and help turn it into a more interoperable enterprise data platform for the AI era. The company had expected the transaction to close in the second or third quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and other standard conditions.
Reltio said the logic behind the deal is rooted in a familiar challenge for large organisations: most now operate a patchwork of SAP applications, third-party software, legacy platforms, cloud tools, warehouses and emerging AI systems. In that kind of environment, the company argues, AI agents cannot perform reliably unless they are fed with accurate, harmonised and continuously updated data about customers, products, suppliers, employees and locations.
For Reltio, the acquisition formalises a strategy it has pursued for more than 15 years. The company built its reputation on cloud-native, AI-native data unification and master data management, with a focus on creating what it calls trusted “golden records” and a shared layer of business context across enterprise systems. In its own announcement, Reltio said the combination with SAP would allow it to extend that capability to a broader range of enterprise programmes.
SAP has made similar claims about the strategic value of the transaction. According to the company’s announcement in May 2026, Reltio’s technology is expected to help customers unify, cleanse and harmonise data across multiple sources, improving the quality of the context available to business AI applications. SAP has positioned the deal as part of a wider push to deepen its status as a business AI provider.
Reltio also stressed that the acquisition does not mark a retreat from open integration. The company said support for an open ecosystem remains central to its approach, reflecting the reality that most customers operate in multi-vendor environments and do not want to be forced into a single-stack model. That message will matter for non-SAP customers as much as for SAP’s existing base, because Reltio said it intends to continue helping organisations unify data wherever it resides, while giving them the option to connect more closely with SAP’s data platform over time.
The broader significance of the deal lies in SAP’s ambition to evolve Business Data Cloud beyond an SAP-only environment. By adding Reltio’s master data management capabilities, SAP is aiming to create a more interoperable foundation for enterprise AI, one that can support analytics, automation and decision-making with cleaner underlying data.
Reltio said the acquisition is not an endpoint but the start of a new phase. Its stated mission remains to turn fragmented information into real-time context that can power better decisions and more reliable AI. For customers, the promise is a combination of wider reach, deeper integration and continued support for the mixed technology estates that still define most large enterprises.
