Goodyear earns leadership accolade for supplier climate engagement as it advances net-zero targets

Goodyear Tire & Rubber has been awarded an “A” score in CDP’s annual Supplier Engagement Assessment, a mark that places the tyre maker among companies seen as leaders in how they work with suppliers on climate issues. CDP says the assessment measures corporate supply-chain engagement across governance, emissions targets, Scope 3 management and supplier collaboration, with top-rated firms demonstrating stronger alignment with the shift to a net-zero economy.

ition comes as Goodyear continues to frame supplier engagement as a central part of its wider sustainability strategy. In its 2023 Corporate Responsibility Report, the company said it was working to cut emissions across its value chain and had set both near-term science-based climate targets for 2030 and a longer-term net-zero ambition for 2050.

Goodyear launched its supplier engagement programme with raw-material suppliers in 2023. According to the company’s report, suppliers are being asked to adopt and publicly commit to science-based targets, work towards 100% renewable electricity by 2030 and 100% renewable energy by 2040, and push climate targets further down their own supply chains. The programme also calls for public progress reporting and the sharing of product-level greenhouse gas emissions data.

The tyre maker said it is using supplier-specific roadmaps and emissions analysis by material group to better understand where the biggest impacts lie. It added that the approach helps identify opportunities for improvement and supports collaboration on shared climate goals across the value chain.

CDP’s methodology is designed to assess not only whether companies have targets in place, but whether they are actively using their purchasing power and supplier relationships to drive decarbonisation. An “A” score indicates leadership-level performance within that framework.
