broader role in supporting the physical backbone of Amazon’s cloud operations as the business continues to scale its data centre network.
Stefan Paul, chief executive of Kuehne+Nagel International AG, said the arrangement reflects a shared emphasis on scale, innovation and customer value. He added that the company’s global reach, digital tools and supply chain expertise position it to meet Amazon’s changing operational needs and help unlock further growth.
According to Kuehne+Nagel’s announcement, the agreement is backed by a call option on existing Kuehne+Nagel shares that can be exercised over as long as seven years, with vesting tied to commercial milestones and service performance. The company also said it has arranged for a third-party financial institution to carry out hedging transactions in its shares to support the structure.
The collaboration builds on an existing commercial relationship between the two companies. Industry coverage from Logistics Manager and other trade publications said the new arrangement is intended to improve resilience, scalability and operational efficiency as Amazon expands its cloud infrastructure globally.
The market appeared to read the deal as strategically important. El Fondo reported that Kuehne+Nagel shares opened 3.1% higher after the announcement and at one stage rose as much as 5.2% during intraday trading on 21 September. Jyske Bank analyst Haider Anjum described the agreement as a notable win, saying: “Securing a partnership with the largest player in this space is clearly a strategic win for Kuehne+Nagel.”
For Kuehne+Nagel, the Amazon tie-up adds another layer to its push to widen higher-value, technically complex services beyond traditional freight and contract logistics. For Amazon, it signals a further effort to secure specialist logistics support for the infrastructure behind its cloud business, which remains central to its wider growth strategy.
