The approach reflects a wider challenge for vehicle salvage and remarketing businesses, whose climate impact extends well beyond depots and offices. Transport fleets, specialist trailer manufacturers and other logistics partners account for a significant share of the emissions associated with day-to-day operations, making supplier cooperation central to any meaningful decarbonisation plan.
Belle Trailers, which has worked with Copart for decades, has linked that commercial relationship to a tree-planting programme that has already resulted in more than 600 trees being planted. The arrangement, under which four trees are planted for every vehicle built for Copart, is presented by the companies as a practical form of offsetting tied directly to business activity rather than a generic carbon-credit purchase.
Copart has also invested in its transport capability over recent years. In 2020, the company said it expanded its UK fleet with 150 new DAF- and Volvo-based multi-car transporters, which were built by Belle Trailers to Copart’s specifications and were due to be fully operational by 2021. The company said the fleet now includes more than 250 Euro 6-compliant transporters, designed to improve efficiency, safety and emissions performance.
The emphasis on direct supplier engagement suggests Copart is trying to make its sustainability programme more operational than symbolic. By working with established partners already embedded in its logistics and equipment network, the company is seeking to align commercial continuity with environmental progress, while also gathering better-quality data to support future reductions.
For Copart, the message is clear: reducing supply chain emissions is not just a reporting exercise, but a matter of reshaping long-running partnerships into vehicles for measurable climate action.
