Simmons partners with POSCO and Korea Steel in pioneering three-way collaboration for mattress materials

Simmons has teamed up with POSCO and Korea Steel Corporation in what it says is the bedding industry’s first three-way collaboration covering materials development, precision production and mattress manufacturing.

Under the arrangement, POSCO and Simmons will jointly develop spring wire optimised for mattresses, Korea Steel Corporation will handle precision manufacturing and supply, and Simmons will apply its sleep-engineering expertise to complete the final product.

Kwon Oh-jin, an executive responsible for sleep research and materials technology, said the distinction of the vanadium pocket spring was not simply that vanadium was used, but that the company had studied elasticity, support and durability at the material stage.

Simmons said the new structure would strengthen supply stability and technical reliability by linking the capabilities of all three companies from the outset rather than sourcing finished materials and assembling them later. Lee Jong-sung, vice-president for production and logistics strategy, described the partnership as a model of how each company’s core strengths can be connected, adding that the supply network would underpin Simmons’s future competitiveness.

Kim Dong-hyun, a production executive, said the partnership mattered because strong suppliers make for a stronger company, and that the alliance with top-tier firms was intended to support both sourcing and technical stability.
